Background & Problem Statement

The hospital management observed visible cracks in columns and beams, spalling of concrete cover, and dampness in the basement and ground-floor areas.

These issues were causing concerns about patient safety, possible load-bearing reduction, and aesthetic deterioration of the hospital’s interior zones.

Valorem Engineering Pvt. Ltd. was appointed as the Structural Consultant to carry out a comprehensive structural audit and propose scientifically designed strengthening solutions without major interruption to hospital operations.


Scope of Work


Detailed Structural Audit

– Visual inspection of all structural elements

– Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) including:

• Rebound Hammer Test for surface hardness

• Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) for internal concrete quality

• Half-Cell Potential Test for corrosion mapping

• Verification of column reinforcement through cover meter survey

– Assessment of distress severity and categorization of repair priority


Root Cause Analysis

– Continuous exposure to moisture from adjacent drains

– Corrosion-induced cracking and delamination

– Deficient concrete compaction during original construction

– Poor surface protection and aging
